Conference

On Monday 8th December 2008 and the morning of Tuesday 9th December 2008, GIP SPSI is organising its third international conference. This year it shall be focusing on the theme of health and social protection in regards to longer living and the drop in birth rates on a global scale.

Strongly focusing on the international aspect – which is at the very heart of GIP SPSI’s mission -, its third annual conference shall be devoted to the impact of greater life expectancy and the drop in birth rates on a global scale on health and social welfare systems, particularly in emerging and developing countries.

Organised as part of the French Presidency of the European Union, this conference shall enable those present to examine not only the different aspects of this question, but also the potential solutions and the cooperation required on both a French and European level.

The wide range of solutions and possibilities for international cooperation shall be examined by means of five geographical workshops respectively focusing on China, Russia and Eastern Europe, the Maghreb, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

One morning shall be devoted to multilateral approaches, possible solutions and good practice.

Well aware that there is no ready-made solution to this issue, the conference on the 8th and 9th December 2008 shall also be an opportunity for the representatives of large international organisations, the public authorities, civil society and researchers to meet, discuss the issue and share their experiences and expertise on this matter.

The ultimate aim is to reach a joint diagnosis of a question which concerns developed and developing countries alike.

Free registration is compulsory as numbers are limited.
