Assistance in the Creation of a Medical Assistance Fund in Mali

Publiée le : 21 July 2006

ACOSS has conducted a study on a health insurance funding scheme and a medical assistance fund for Mali.

The Malian authorities have decided to establish a statutory health insurance system and a medical assistance fund for the poorest segments of the population.
The system is to be based loosely on French social welfare arrangements. In this context, ACOSS has conducted a study on options for funding the two schemes.
With regard to health insurance, the study recommends a system financed by contributions, the base of which will be determined by the overall cost of the system. Financing of the medical assistance fund is to come from public funding in a spirit of national solidarity.
