A key pillar of GIP SPSI, the Steering Committee comprises three Task Forces, each with two previous meetings to their credit.
The Steering Committee, which is attached to the GIP chair, has an advisory role. As a working group and think tank, its task is to assist the Executive Board in setting direction and priorities in terms of technical assistance and cooperation. To that end, it brings together the chairs and directors of France’s national social security funds (ex officio members) and key personalities appointed for a period of three years by the Executive Board for their expertise on health and social welfare issues, particularly in the international sphere. The Steering Committee meets at least once a year; its next session is scheduled for 27 November 2006 to coincide with the GIP Forum.
Given the scale and diversity of the social welfare and care sectors, the Steering Committee has decided to set up three task forces each devoted to a specific aspect of social welfare, namely:
- Social Development (task force chaired by Christian Rollet, General Inspector for Social Affairs and Director of CANSSM (Miners’ Social Security Fund)),
- Health (chaired by Michèle Barzach, former Minister of Health and Family and Chair of MBSI),
- Social Protection (chaired by Pierre Burban, Chairman of ACOSS (French Central Agency for Social Security Funds)).
Each task force comprises twenty or so key players in the field concerned. The first two meetings of the task forces took place between May and September of this year.
